Local measurements of edema and swelling
MoistureMeterD Compact
Universal tissue water and edema measurement instrument to assess skin and upper subcutis (2.5 mm depth).

MoistureMeterD Compact – Local measurements of tissue water
The MoistureMeterD Compact is a portable and non-invasive instrument for local measurements of tissue water. It is a unique tissue water-specific instrument for assessing percentage water content (PWC) in biological tissues. It measures the tissue dielectric constant (TDC) in the skin and subcutis (2.5 mm) in seconds after applying the measurement probe on the skin.
TDC values are converted into percentage water content (PWC) scale from 0 to 100 % for easy interpretation of results. Get quote on MoistureMeterD Compact.
MoistureMeterD Compact is a CE marked medical device (CE0537) in EU. FDA clearance 510(k) in USA.

FAQs
FAQs
The MoistureMeterD Compact measures tissue water and edema in the skin and upper subcutis. It provides fast, reproducible results, making it useful in both research and clinical practice.
Measuring and monitoring tissue water and edema helps identify the focal spots of swelling, track treatment progress, and study skin physiology. It is particularly valuable in lymphedema care, lymphedema research, and clinical evaluations of edema status of patients.
MoistureMeterD Compact is better for quick assessments of tissue water and edema across skin and subcutis. Multiprobe MoistureMeterD provides multi-depth profiles from 0.5 to 5.0 mm with interchangeable probes, ideal for detailed research. Hence, MoistureMeterD Compact is recommended for clinical practice with patients and Multiprobe MoistureMeterD for research use.
MoistureMeterD Compact is measuring water content deeper into the tissue, extending assessment to both skin and upper subcutis. In contrast, MoistureMeterSC is designed for surface hydration, and MoistureMeterEpiD measures deep epidermal hydration.
Yes. The device is widely applied in clinical research, dermatology, and pharmaceutical research studies, as well as for monitoring edema in medical contexts. Its portability and accuracy make it suitable for both clinical and research use.

Use cases in tissue water and edema measurement
The MoistureMeterD Compact is widely used as an edema measurement device to assess and analyze tissue water content in skin and subcutaneous layer, supporting the monitoring of swelling and treatment outcomes. Clinicians and researchers use the instrument as an edema measurement device to assess fluid status and tissue water changes simply with accuracy.
The device is used in dermatology, clinical research, lymphology, and cosmetics. It detects and tracks edema and provides objective data for studies. MoistureMeterD Compact enables accurate monitoring of swelling in the skin and subcutis and helps evaluate treatment outcomes.
With its portability and precision, the MoistureMeterD Compact serves as a reliable tissue fluid meter in both research and clinical environments.
How to choose the right skin hydration measurement device?
While the MoistureMeterD Compact is designed specifically for swelling and edema analysis (2.5 mm depth), Delfin also provides dedicated instruments for specific measurement needs:
MoistureMeterSC – Surface Hydration Measurement (< 30 μm)
MoistureMeterSC measures the stratum corneum, providing assessements of the outermost skin layer. It is ideal for efficacy testing, claims validation, product and formulation research, and assessment of allergic and irritant skin reactions that happen primarily at the skin surface.
MoistureMeterEpiD – Epidermal Hydration Measurement (0.5 mm)
MoistureMeterEpiD measures water content throughout the entire epidermis, providing insight beyond skin surface hydration. MoistureMeterEpiD is widely used for product and formulation research, claims validation, injectables research, transdermal drug penetration studies, skincare routine evaluation, and assessment of allergic and irritant skin reactions.
MoistureMeterD Compact – Tissue Water Assessment (2.5 mm)
MoistureMeterD Compact measures deep skin tissue water content. It works as an ideal choice for assessing edema and swelling, monitoring blood circulation-related changes, burns, wound healing, and other conditions involving fluid accumulation within the tissue.
Multiprobe MoistureMeterD – Layer-Specific Tissue Water Analysis (0.5–5.0 mm)
Multiprobe MoistureMeterD is perfect for assessing tissue water at multiple depths with a single device. Different depths are used in achieving specific research objectives:
- 0.5 mm: Product and formulation research, claims validation, transdermal drug penetration, injectables, skincare routines, irritant and allergic skin reactions
- 1.5 mm: Transdermal drug penetration, injectables, irritant and allergic skin reactions
- 2.5 mm: Blood circulation studies, swelling and edema assessment, wound healing, burns and thermal injuries
- > 5 mm: Subcutaneous tissue metabolism studies and cellulite treatment evaluation
The multi-depth approach of this device allows researchers to measure and evaluate hydration and tissue water changes from the skin surface down to the subcutaneous tissue layer.
VapoMeter® VX – Closed-chamber transepidermal water loss (TEWL) measurements
VapoMeter® VX TEWL meter measures transepidermal water loss using the closed-chamber method. It produces quick, repeatable TEWL measurements to evaluate skin barrier function, making it ideal for both on-site and laboratory testing.
