Assess lymphedema with confidence across different body areas

On this page, you can explore how the Delfin LymphScanner is used to assess lymphedema in different parts of the body through real patient cases.

These educational videos demonstrate typical measurement protocols for the arm, breast, lower limb, and head & neck regions. Each protocol is designed to provide objective, reproducible, and clinically meaningful data to support decision-making, treatment planning, and follow-up.

Whether you are a current user or evaluating the LymphScanner for your clinic, these examples will help you understand how easy it is to integrate objective tissue water measurements into daily practice.

Upper limb lymphedema assessment (arm)

Learn how to use LymphScanner to assess breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) patient.

In this video, the therapist marks seven measurement sites and performs arm-to-arm PWC ratio based-assessment on the healthy and affected arm using Scan mode. The resulting PWC values and ratios help identify the location and severity of lymphedema.

This protocol is an example on how to use LymphScanner in breast cancer rehabilitation to detect and monitor upper limb lymphedema.

Breast lymphedema assessment

This video demonstrates how to use LymphScanner to assess breast lymphedema using a simple and reproducible measurement protocol.

Four anatomical points are measured on both the healthy and affected side. The LymphScanner provides PWC values and ratios, enabling clinicians to identify localized lymphedema and quantify its severity.

This approach supports early detection and longitudinal monitoring of breast lymphedema following cancer therapy.

Lower limb lymphedema assessment (leg)

Learn a simple protocol for lymphedema assesssment in the lower limbs using arm-to-leg PWC ratio based-assessment.

In this protocol, a reference measurement is taken from the healthy forearm site and used to calculate PWC ratios for both legs. The therapist measures four typical points for each leg, allowing accurate identification of lymphedema across the foot, ankle, calf, and thigh. Using arm as a healhty reference site allows both unilateral and bilateral leg lymphedema assessments.

This method enables reliable and objective assessment even in bilateral lymphedema cases.

Head & Neck lymphedema assessment

Head and neck lymphedema is a common side effect in patients who have undergone cancer treatment in the head and neck region, and it can significantly impact quality of life

This video demonstrates a protocol based on anatomically defined measurement points across the face and neck. Measurements are performed using Spot mode to obtain absolute PWC values, which can be compared to published reference values.

The protocol enables clinicians to identify localized lymphedma and monitor changes over time with high precision.

Indication of Use

FDA clearance 510(k) in USA: LymphScanner is a device utilizing inter-aim ratios of tissue dielectric constant (TDC) that supports local assessment of tissue water differences between affected and contralateral non-affected arm tissues to aid in forming a clinical judgment of unilateral lymphedema in adult women. (K220557)

EU: LymphScanner is used to aid in forming a clinical judgement of edema at any soft tissue site of the body

Why Use LymphScanner in Clinical Practice?

  • Objective measurement of tissue water
  • Standardized and reproducible protocols
  • Non-invasive and quick to perform
  • Supports early detection and monitoring
  • Enables targeted and personalized treatment
  • Suitable for multiple anatomical areas
  • Time-saving compared to tape measurements
  • Pinpoints focal sites of edema
  • Prevent chronic lymphedema with early detection
