VapoMeter
and Dermalab vs. reference evaporation source To
evaluate the measurement range and linearity of the closed chamber
(VapoMeter) and the open chamber (Dermalab) TEWL methods, the
evaporation of a water sample was measured with both devices.
The closed chamber device VapoMeter can linearly measure up to
220 g/m²h whereas the values of the open chamber method start
to deviate from the calculated rate of evaporation around 120
g/m²h.
Conclusion
The
closed chamber VapoMeter measures also high evaporation rates reliably.
The
reference evaporation source consists of a petri dish
covered with a semipermeable membrane. Different levels of evaporation
were measured. The water loss was calculated during a fixed
observation period by weighing the petri dish with a laboratory scale.
The TEWL values were measured simultaneously with both devices.
