MoistureMeterSC – Sensitive and easy-to-use skin surface hydration meter

MoistureMeterSC is an easy-to-use, fully portable and wireless skin hydration measurement instrument. Measuring skin hydration in the stratum corneum has never been easier. This skin moisture meter makes it simple to analyze skin hydration levels for cosmetic and skin research purposes.

Skin surface hydration is a function of two variables: moisture held in the stratum corneum and the thickness of the stratum corneum’s dry layer. The MoistureMeterSC uses a precise (1.25 MHz) electromagnetic field to measure the skin’s dielectric constant which takes both variables into account, giving more accurate results than other skin moisture detector devices.

Skin moisture measuring device

MoistureMeterSC is widely used by personal care and pharmaceutical companies around the world for in-house claims substantiation and formulation, the evaluation of skin care and treatments and in a wide range of research studies.
The MoistureMeterSC features a built-in pressure sensor and has a measurement time of four seconds, with a repeat cycle of up to 12 measurements per minute. It uses standard AA batteries and comes with its own calibration check device, making ownership reliable, simple and cost-effective.

Skin moisture measurement principle

The measurement principle of the MoistureMeterSC is based on the layered capacitive structure of the skin. The capacitor plates are formed from the probe and the highly conductive epidermal layer while the dry layer of the stratum corneum acts as an insulator. The measurement depth of the MoistureMeterSC varies and is determined by the thickness of the stratum corneum’s dry layer.

This technique makes skin hydration measurements extremely sensitive and reproducible.
