The MoistureMeterD measures the dielectric constant of the skin and subcutaneous fat. The dielectric constant is a dimensionless physical quantity and it is directly proportional to the water content in the measured tissue. The measured value increases when water content increases. The MoistureMeterD uses a low power 300 MHz frequency.
The measurement depth can be determined by using differently sized probes. There are four probes of different sizes. The corresponding effective measurement depths are 0.5 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.5 mm and 5 mm.
The dielectric constant of water molecules depends on the used radiofrequency. Free and bound water behave electrically differently with different frequencies. At around 300 MHz, the electrical properties of free and bound water are quite identical, thus the MoistureMeterD measures changes in the total water content of the tissue.
The probe should be selected after the measurement site has been determined. The deeper the measurement need the larger the probe. Once you know your target area and depth you can then select the appropriate probe.
The MoistureMeterD measures the area under the probe head.
Wipe the cover of the MoistureMeterD with a soft cloth and a mild detergent solution, if necessary. The probes may be cleaned with an antiseptic cleansing towel or ethanol and dried after cleaning. Never place the unit itself in contact with water or any other liquid.
